AI Ethics & Literacy | Project-Based Software Training | Creative Consulting

Mission: To empower students with peer-led STE(A)M awareness, ethics, and literacy programming.

Art meets technology in these creative, interactive, hands-on workshops led by skilled young artists and entrepreneurs Chris (14) and Lucas (12) Brown. Each workshop begins with an exciting presentation covering the science behind visual communication followed by topics addressing artificial intelligence’s impact on the future.

Photography 101 & AI

Taught by Chris Brown II, Dekalb Arts Academy

Chris, 14, delivers a peer-to-peer demo of his camera and the portfolio he submitted to earn his seat into the #1 Art High School. He’ll give his recipe for what makes a good photograph and how to spot a fake in this new age of AI.

Awareness. Visual communication accounts for 50% of our brain's processing; it's pretty important to understand how it all works together and the artist's responsibility to their global audience. We believe the topics of ethical AI usage and continuing AI education for users should be raised and addressed in every conversation.

Workshop Outline (1 hr)

Is It Real? (Game)

Chris leads this interactive guessing game to teach students how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to create “deep fakes,” images and videos designed to fool you into believing something that is not true.

Outcome: learn to hone skills that help determine fact from fiction.

What’s Good, Chat? (Lesson)

Chris uses his “Is It Real?” game examples to show what makes a good photograph, focusing on subject, lighting, and utilizing techniques like the rule of thirds.

Outcome: learn the recipe for a quality photo, what gear is needed to start, and the software used to edit/enhance.

Art of Tech & AI

Taught by Lucas Brown, Dekalb Arts Academy

Lucas, 12, shows off a collection of 3D prints made on a printer he built by hand. A future architect, he discuss’ his experience in coding, robotics, and building. He will share scenarios and resources for AI use, highlighting the benefits of AI.

Awareness. Foreign languages are required in most curriculums, but why aren't we including computer language? Speaking code and understanding the basics of programing an application will be fundamental in preparing for a global future. We believe the topics of ethical AI usage and continuing AI education for users should be raised and addressed in every conversation.

Handmade By Me (Lesson)

Lucas discusses his triumphs and failures as a budding architect trained in the art and science of building design. He showcases his 3D Biqu™ printer, 3D prints, drawings, and Lego™ builds, all designed and built by his hands.

Outcome: learn the vital role art contributes to the success of every STEM project.

Lucas Reloaded: Coding (Game)

Chris uses his “Is It Real?” game examples to show what makes a good photograph, focusing on composition, lighting, and how to utilize techniques like the rule of thirds.

Outcome: learn the recipe for a quality photo and what gear is needed to start

Ethics - Roundtable

Discussion Topic: "If you find a $100 bill on the ground…"

A peer-to-peer conversation about culture, morals, principals, and what each would do with the $100.

Research. Shaping the future of AI means understanding the humans who will program and train the models. Is keeping the $100 good luck or is it stealing? Depends on who you ask. We believe the topics of ethical AI usage and continuing AI education for users should be raised and addressed in every conversation.

Workshop Outline (0.5 hr)

Discussion

Ethics are fundamental principles that distinguish acceptable from unacceptable behavior, acting as a crucial guide for personal conduct, societal harmony, and professional integrity. In an age of “Me, Myself, & I”, Chris and Lucas challenge social norms and plead for a revival of the Golden Rule.
